Le palais de justice de Bruxelles construit par l'architecte Joseph Poelaert entre 1866 et 1883, est le plus grand édifice du XIXe siècle. Le palais de justice en impose par sa situation élevée, sur l'ancien Galgenberg, ou "mont des potences", et ses dimensions impressionnantes. Il est en effet plus grand que la cathédrale St-Pierre de Rome avec sa coupole a 103 m de haut
